Wealth disparity is a painful phenomenon. While the middle classes can moan all they want about ‘the 1%’, maybe it’s the 1% at the other end of the sale who we should be talking about? In cities like New York, rich and poor live side-by-side, CEOs rub shoulders with the homeless and occasionally something heartwarming happens.
While the done thing is ignore the plea for change or politely give some form of excuse, there are those who would rather step in and make a difference. As this man rode the New York Subway, he realised he was sharing a carriage with a man who was not only homeless but also shirtless. The man hadn’t said a word to him but he literally dressed him with the shirt off his back.
In a society which has created the phrase ‘charity mugger’ (and then abbreviated it to ‘chugger’) we’re clearly taught to be cynical. What’s worse is that we’re taught not to trust those who ask for our help. This video highlights that there is so much more you can give a homeless person than just the change in your pocket.
